The Biggest Highlighting Trend in 2016: Balayage

Balayage is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint. It allows for a sun-kissed natural looking hair colour - similar to what nature gives us as children - with softer, less noticeable regrowth lines. The principal idea being less is more when creating soft, natural looks. AND can also be used for edgier and unnatural trends as well. It is pretty versatile.

It is the latest, huge trend that has been used to create some of the most stunning ombre, sombre, blurring, highlighting etc...fill in the blank. And it is my favorite-ist technique to happen in hair industry in the last decade. I, myself, prefer the sombre and blurring category, but then I am not as edgy as I used to be! I will break down some brief picto- descriptions of these techniques for the laywoman. First up is Ombre.

Ombre

A traditional Ombre is more solid blonde on the bottom with blending up to a darker root. Much softer than the Dip-Dye color, which has a line of demarcation. It usually begins around the temple, cheek bone or jawline. The tease or balayage technique can be used for this although the tease technique may be more efficient(although brushing out the tangles is no fun). Many stylists' use a Balayage technique instead of the tease.

Next blog is the Sombre technique, Ecaille(tortoise shell color) and the newest trend, Blurring.
